Job Summary: The Library Assistant provides library and reference support to students and the Head Librarians on the Wornall and Ward Parkway campuses. The Library Faculty Assistant contributes significantly to the library's educational program by teaching and providing support to students through whole group and half group instruction in the library. They work under the supervision of the campus Librarians.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; education related major or equivalent experience in education.
- Experience working with children, minimum of two years strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Previous library or reading education experience, a plus
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage children in learning, support problem solving, and supervise children throughout the day.
- Support, and at times lead, whole group instruction.
- Assist the lead librarians in planning and implementing the curriculum and classroom routines.
- Collaborate with the lead teacher in planning daily activities, gathering materials, and setting up experiences.
- Provide technology and administrative support
- Perform duties of librarian when absent or in meetings outside the classroom.
Compensation: The annual base salary for the school year ranges from $32,500-35,500 based on previous experience, and there are ways to earn additional compensation through the extended day program, coaching, and/or summer camp.
