This is a part-time position with a 20-hour work week. Remote work is not available for this position. Hours will be mainly 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, but that schedule could vary depending on the needs of the library.

* Provide circulation desk services associated with an automated circulation system which includes checking in/out materials issuing library cards, and requesting payment of overdue fines and collecting for lost or damaged materials.* Provides public services, through direct contact with patrons on a daily basis, based on the needs of each patron. Assists library users with the online public access catalog and navigating the library's website, computer databases, and the internet.* Performs switchboard operations. Answers the telephone in a timely manner and directs calls to proper party.* Maintains inventories of equipment, supplies, and library materials, including print materials and equipment.* Assists the library staff in the checkout, processing, maintenance, and tracking of equipment such as laptops and tablets.* Schedules, delivers and retrieves equipment needing repair and maintenance; ensures proper work has been completed.* Performs standard office management duties and provides clerical support to the Library, as needed.* Processes library materials including applying dust jackets, plastic covers, labels, security tags, and other identifying information.* Processes daily incoming mail. Maintains periodical and newspaper collections.* Collects fines and fees, creating receipts and documentation, reconciling accounts, and sending out overdue letters and making phone calls to recover overdue items.* Cleans, dusts, and vacuums equipment and library furniture as needed.* Shelves items under the Library of Congress Classification System. Ensures the collection is maintained and organized according to shelving rules.
Shelf reads on a regular basis and inventories materials.* Trouble shoots problems with library computers and assists patrons with printing issues.* Assists with keeping the library's website and library's website guides (LibGuides) updated and current.* Clips newspaper articles from local papers and creates scrapbooks for the library's records.* Performs other duties assigned by the Library Director.
Education and Experience Required:
* Associate degree (or working toward the completion of at least a two-year degree ) from an accredited college or university with major course work in office technology, computer technology, library science, or related field and at least two years of relevant industry experience.* Demonstrated competencies using technology, including but not limited to library computers, equipment (laptops, cameras and projectors, etc.), library related software, and current knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365.* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.* Experience working with the public in a customer service capacity and maintaining a professional demeanor with a customer service mindset.* Experience working with integrated library systems; knowledge of SirsiDynix's Symphony system, as well as the Evergreen system, is preferred.* Trustworthy with confidential patron information and working with debt collection.* Excellent interpersonal skills in working with colleagues, students, faculty/staff, and other members of the VGCC community; a flexible team player who works comfortably in a dynamic library and academic environment.
Education and Experience Preferred:
* Bachelor's degree in library science, computer technology, business, or another related field.* Experience working in the North Carolina Community College system.* Demonstrated knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification System.* Duties may require intermittent light to moderate physical effort in carrying, lifting, or moving lightweight materials or equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to climb on ladders and have a good command of the English language.
* Physical requirements include: frequent bending, standing, walking; continuous ability for speech communication and hearing in order to communicate with library users, vision for reading, recording and interpreting information.
