The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.Key Responsibilities:Initiate and research pitches for 25-minute documentary program based in the U.S., covering the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean or international stories with a strong U.S. connectionPrepare appropriate budget and story treatments for in-house approvalResearch interviewsOrganize production of documentary, including planning all editorial and logistical aspects of shoots, arranging travel, accommodation, and equipment, securing access to people and locations for long-form shootRecruit freelance production staffProduce programs in the field, including directing cinematographer and correspondentStructure story and write broadcast documentary script, including narration, based on original, and in some cases archival, footage for 25-minute documentaryWork closely with video editor during edit on deadlineSubmit Programs as Completed forms for each documentary to document sourcing and rights informationCoach and mentor Producers, Assistant Producers, Interns, Researchers assigned to projectsOversee documentaries produced by Producers, overseeing the entire production process from pitch to editCreate pitch to edit production schedule for ProducersHelp oversee the program’s equipmentPerform other duties relevant to the job as requested
