JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life is seeking an
Assistant Director for Health, Safety, & Event Planning
to advise and lead initiatives related to health and safety, including risk prevention, event planning and monitoring, and policy compliance. The purpose of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Penn State is to support the university's mission, enhance scholarship, develop character and integrity, promote brotherhood, sisterhood, and siblinghood, develop leadership, engage with the community, and uphold personal and organizational responsibility. Reporting to the Senior Assistant Director, this role will support chapter leaders, advisors, and local house personnel across approximately 70 chapters and 4 councils. Responsibilities include:
Coach chapters across all councils, including meetings with risk managers, event planners, and accountability officers. Review and discuss health and safety plans and event registrations. Conduct pre-event walk-throughs and post-event meetings to ensure safety and success. Participate in community event monitoring and assessment. Analyze new member survey responses and conduct interviews regarding the new member education experience. Collaborate with chapter advisors, alumni, national headquarters, and other stakeholders. Facilitate educational programs and training on health, safety, and event planning. Assist chapters in developing relationships with local neighborhood groups and officials. Candidate requirements:
Understanding of student development, risk prevention, event planning, and safety issues in fraternity and sorority communities. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, providing culturally competent services. Experience collaborating with students, university departments, and organizations. Effective communication, motivational interviewing, advising, and coaching skills. Ability to develop positive relationships while maintaining accountability. Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Presentation and training facilitation skills. Qualifications include a bachelor's degree or higher and 3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required, supporting a rotating schedule for on-site assessments. This position offers a flexible work arrangement combining remote and on-campus work.
