Basic Function
Performs a variety of complex technical and administrative tasks requiring considerable independent judgment and in-depth knowledge related to the management of a library department or branch operations.

Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities
- Directs operations of a library department or branch, developing plans, policies, and goals.
- Manages and leads library operations.
- Maintains good public relations with the community served.
- Trains, assigns, evaluates staff, and recommends personnel actions.
- Monitors operations and customer service, implementing improvements.
- Assists in budget preparation and monitors expenditures.
- Oversees physical plant maintenance and reports issues.
- Attends professional meetings and training to stay current.
- Prepares correspondence and resolves complaints.
- Coordinates and promotes library activities.
- Maintains library materials collection.
- Leads committees and participates in management team.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required; MLIS preferred.
Experience Requirements
- At least three years of progressive library experience.
- Thorough knowledge of library principles, methods, and procedures.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Experience with budget management and community assessment.
Other Details
Full-Time, 38 hours/week. Salary: $52,000 - $58,000. Benefits include daytime, evening, weekend hours, possibly including Sundays, six-day workweeks, and split shifts. The system serves over 135,000 residents across six locations.
