Middle School Instrumental Music (Band) Teacher
Decorah Community School District has an opening for Middle School Instrumental Music (Band) Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. We are seeking a charismatic, collaborative, and creative individual to join a vertically aligned 5-12 instrumental music team. Responsibilities would include 5-12 small group instruction, leading 2 middle school ensembles, and Middle School jazz band. Additionally, the candidate will assist the high school concert band, sectionals, co-direct marching band, and facilitate summer lessons.
Performance and Ensemble Management:
Organize and conduct regular band rehearsals, sectionals, and performances to develop students' musical skills, ensemble techniques, and performance etiquette.
Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires students while showcasing their talents and fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Coordinate logistics for concerts, festivals, competitions, and other performance opportunities, including scheduling, transportation, and equipment setup.
Vertical Alignment and Collaborative Teaching:
Collaborate with K-12 music PLC and associate 5-12 Band instructors.
Establish clear communication channels and opportunities for collaboration with colleagues to facilitate a cohesive and integrated approach to music education.
Participate in professional development activities and workshops to stay informed about best practices in music education and instructional strategies.
Charismatic Recruitment and Retention:
Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract new students to the 5th grade band program (if lead 5th grade director).
Cultivate positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members to promote enthusiasm and support for the band program.
In collaboration with colleagues, realize and implement retention initiatives to engage and retain students in the band program.
Instruction and Curriculum Development:
Develop and implement a comprehensive and sequential instrumental music curriculum aligned with state standards and PLC team goals.
Plan and conduct engaging rehearsals, lessons, and performances that cater to the diverse needs and skill levels of students.
Foster a supportive, inclusive, and safe learning environment where students feel encouraged.
Salary Range $50,000.00 to $77,478.00 Per Year
Additional Job Information Must have a valid Iowa Teaching License.
