Lockheed Martin seeks a strategic, detail oriented, highly motivated individual to lead media monitoring and rapid response activities. This position plays a critical role within the Communications function and Global Media Relations team, shaping and overseeing our media monitoring activities to identify, contextualize, and respond to impactful breaking news and narratives relevant to Lockheed Martin's business. The successful candidate must have excellent judgement, exceptional written and oral communications skills, the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines, and take initiative to devise and continuously improve processes. Candidates must be self-starters, team players, and have a strong work ethic.
Primary responsibilities: Lead a small team responsible for discovering, tracking, and alerting breaking news and impactful narratives, and measuring and implementing innovative media relations and rapid response strategies to support brand reputation. Prioritize and escalate high-impact narratives to leadership, facilitating rapid response. Analyze monitoring data to derive insights on emerging trends, issues, and opportunities for proactive communications planning.
Act as day to day lead with external vendors to monitor, filter, assess and provide media coverage and analysis. Support enterprise crisis preparedness and response activities, serving as the "eyes and ears" of our function, centralizing information flow during crisis, coordinating table top exercises. Drive continuous innovation and process improvements to enhance the corporation's media monitoring and rapid response capabilities. Support broader enterprise media relations requirements, conducting research, preparing prep materials, engaging with journalists and coordinating activities as required.
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8 years of professional experience; or 6 years of professional experience with a related Master's degree. Significant communications experience in aerospace/defense, publicly traded company, government or B2G public relations or communications agency / consultancy, preferred. Prior experience in political research, political campaigns, "war room" operations public affairs, or on Capitol Hill, or supporting monitoring at a communications or public relations agency are a plus. Communications experience including research, media monitoring, media relations and message development. Experience using media monitoring/intelligence tools and software. Familiarity with contemporary communications trends (AP Style). Motivated self-starter who works effectively under competing priorities and tight deadlines, with close attention to detail. Ability to travel as required.
Desired Skills: Strong understanding of the news media and significant media relations, media monitoring and research experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and compellingly. Strong planning and project management experience. Experience leading a small team and training/mentoring junior staff. Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across levels, teams and functions. Creative instincts to help support strategic communication and issues management. Professional communications experience and strong interest in domestic and international political and policy dynamics and their implications for media and messaging strategy preferred. Innovative and creative thinker, with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and excellent prioritization and time management skills.

Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings. Work Schedules:
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits. Schedule for this Position:
4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week.
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $103,700 - $179,860. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
