LOCATION: Kittitas ElementarySchool
HOURS: 6.75 hours/day, 2 days/week (Monday & Fridays)

Position Description: Provide all students with an enriched library environment, containing a wide variety and range of materials and equipment that will invite intellectual growth, and aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of library media resources.
Essential Job Functions:
Operates and supervises the library media center to which it is assigned.
Manages and inputs student fines for lost books. Overdue notices sent to parents every 5-8 weeks.
Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new library materials. Weed obsolete and worn materials from the collections.
Purchases, maintains, and inventories yearly all materials within the library media center.
Instruct students on proper use of library materials and equipment and inform users of resources. Present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on invitation of the teacher.
Maintains a state-of-the-art understanding of technology and the relationship to the use and management of library media programs.
Supervises the computer circulation system, providing technical assistance when necessary. Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
Assists teachers in selection of books and other instructional materials and makes library materials available to supplement the instructional program. Work with teachers in planning assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
Informs teachers and other staff members concerning new materials and equipment the library acquires.
Arranges for District-wide interlibrary loan of materials or use by teachers.
Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.
Provides reading guidance to students.
Arranges frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest students.
Proctors make-up tests and assessments.
Monitors HS students for in-house detention purposes.
Communicates library needs with building principal.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience as a librarian.
Required Skills, Knowledge and or Abilities
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.
Ability to assist with reading strategies.
Ability to prepare letters, summaries, reports, and other necessary documents.
Ability to speak before groups.
Ability to work with staff member, administrators, students, and others.
Ability to work as part of a team in interpreting literature, technical materials, and journal needs.
