The Simon & Schuster Design and Digital Content Development team is hiring a desktop publishing assistant to help us make
great books
**. The assistant will focus on conversions and backlist reprints. **
Responsibilitiesinclude:
Making corrections to existing files
Resizing files into new trim sizes
Review and update older file assets to meet current design standards and guidelines
Logging and reviewing files for reprint requests, ensuringtimelymanagement of due dates and schedules
Creating reduction or enlargement samples
Reviewing files for design consistency, page makeup, and compliance with in-house standards and preflight requirements
Sending final files to print vendors
Reviewing final proofs for compliance with provided production specs and industry-standard print guidelines
Archiving final interior title assets
The assistant should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and extremely organized. Because the job is deadline-sensitive, this person must be able to manage their time well.
Requirements
Expert in Adobe InDesign
Experienced with Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator
Knows proofreader’s marks
Familiar with book composition standards

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
