WTEN-TV ABC Albany, New York is hiring a full-time News Reporter/Anchor. The News Reporter/Anchor collects, analyzes, and presents facts about newsworthy events through interviews, investigation, or observation for all platforms in a clear, engaging, and meaningful manner for news consumers.
Responsibilities:
- Report news stories for broadcast, describing background and event details.
- Arrange interviews with relevant sources.
- Review and correct copy for errors in content, grammar, and punctuation following editorial guidelines.
- Evaluate notes to identify pertinent facts and details.
- Determine story emphasis, length, and format; organize material accordingly.
- Research background information to ensure accuracy.
- Gather information through research, interviews, or attendance at events.
- Pitch relevant stories to news managers and producers.
- Evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
- Discuss issues with producers or managers to establish priorities.
- Check reference materials for relevant facts.
- Revise work to meet editorial standards and time requirements.
- Shoot and edit news events and reports.
- Produce and present reports across platforms.
- Ensure content meets journalistic integrity and quality standards.
- Write stories for web and eMedia platforms.
- Engage with viewers/users on social media.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting (adjustable based on market size).
- Strong on-air presence.
- Proficiency with office equipment and technology.
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
- Valid driver’s license with a good record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
Benefits:
