Department overview: The Mayo Family Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Center (PPRC) at Boston Children's Hospital is a day treatment rehabilitative program for children and adolescents between 8 and 17 years of age, who experience ongoing chronic pain and limitations in completing typical daily activities after they have tried outpatient treatments. The PPRC operates on a day-hospital model of rehabilitation, working with up to eight children and their caregivers at a time. This program involves participating in pain rehabilitation for eight hours per day on weekdays, and completing additional requirements in the evenings and on weekends.
The Music Therapist will:
- Provide music therapy to support the developmental, rehabilitative, psychological, socioemotional, and psychoeducational needs of BCH patients and families from various demographic and multicultural backgrounds.
- Working in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to assess, evaluate, and document the therapeutic needs of patients to address the medical, procedural, surgical, diagnostic, and prognostic experiences of patients and families.
- Providing basic guidance and instruction on student/intern performance and interactions with patients and families.
- Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy
- Certification or the eligibility to sit for certification exam within 18 months of hire are preferred
- 1 year work experience in a medical setting and/or working with children.
- The ability to adhere to AMTA standards of practice, code of ethics and professional competencies.
- Demonstrated proficient knowledge in music therapy clinical practice, musical skills, child development and the impact of healthcare on neurodevelopmental outcomes.
