Position/Title:EXECUTIVE NEWS PRODUCER – KPTVDetails:About Gray Television:Gray Television is a leading media company that owns and operates high-quality stations in 113 television markets that collectively reach 36 percent of US television households.We constantly strive for excellence. Owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television, it is part of a duopoly with Vancouver, Washington-licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate KPDX. The FOX 12 team produces Portland’s top-rated newscasts, local programs, and original live-streaming shows and content.The Executive News Producer will lead a team of producers to deliver promotable, compelling, and well-written newscasts, as well as online content. The EP will also regularly be prepared to produce a primary newscast and write topical tease copy. He or she will work closely with the News Director and Assistant News Director to develop and implement strategies to improve product and raise ratings while managing resources and containing overtime.Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Exercise strong news judgment and review newscast rundowns with an eye toward promotable contentEngage in creative content development following up on viewer submissions of story ideas via social media and email, as well as official sourcesMotivate staff and encourage “buy in” for station news brand, news strategies, and action plansWork with reporters, photographers, and multimedia journalists to determine the direction of stories and manage expectationsWork closely with the assignment desk on coverage, story selection, live coverage, and assignment of reporters and crewsCollaborate with producers on rundowns, story selection, formats, graphic elements, content, and pace and flow of newscastsSupervise long-term planning for sweeps and special eventsOther duties as assignedQualifications/Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Communications preferred2 years experience as an Executive Producer or Senior Producer in local television news or 3-5 years experience as a Producer in local television newsPrevious experience working in a fast-paced environment requiring strict deadlines and a focus on team orientationSkilled communicator, capable of speaking to a diverse audience and conveying messages effectivelyStrong written communicationsCreative, with the ability to provide original concepts, ideas & solutionsStrong listening skills for interviewsIf you feel you’re qualified and want to work with a great group of people, apply at
