Occupational Summary:
The Mission Animator will coordinate initiatives aimed at strengthening the understanding of Newman’s Catholic identity, mission, and core values, while also serving as a spiritual leader and source of inspiration. This role supports the integration of the University Mission into all aspects of campus life by guiding faculty and staff in their teaching, student interactions, and the implementation of policies, decision-making, and governance. This is a Part-Time position. Travel is required. The position will split time between Garden City and Dodge City, KS.
Stewardship Statement:
This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. As a member of the Newman community, the staff member will join with the institution's sponsors, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC Sisters), to witness God's love in Mission to empower others, foster oneness, celebrate life, form right relationships, and walk as compassionate companions. Additionally, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds.
Essential Job Duties:
- Leads and coordinates efforts to assist members of the Southwest Kansas community to understand and articulate Newman’s Catholic Identity and heritage, mission, core values, and The Newman Code.
- Coordinates with appropriate partners orientation sessions for all members of the Southwest Kansas community, especially faculty, staff, and students.
- Plans a session or presentation each semester with faculty and staff that focuses on some aspect of mission and Catholic Identity.
- Promotes the spiritual development of students, including personal availability.
- Completes other tasks, as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Outreach Education related to mission integration.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry, theology, or Christian formation, preferably from Newman’s School of Catholic Studies.
- Residence in Southwest Kansas.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Experience or training in multicultural and ecumenical settings.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
