Designs, installs, terminates, tests, maintains, and repairs voice, video and data cabling (data and video cabling shall include both fiber and copper cables); knowledgeable of designing and implementing audio visual and teleconferencing systems, responsible for making independent judgments and adhering to proper installation guidelines; provides support for MACs (moves, adds and changes) as well as new construction and renovation projects; audio/visual component installations; performs related work as required.
Essential Duties
Assist with designing and physically installing Category 6/6A, RG-6, and Fiber Optic structured cabling distribution systems; installation of telecommunication outlets, cable, fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, dressing and labeling cables compliant to industry standards; install and terminate both multimode and single mode fiber; terminate, assemble and install RJ-45 modular connectors and coaxial connectors; accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required; diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems; removal and demolition of abandoned and unused cables; maintain and reference industry standards including BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, and local and low voltage codes and obtain appropriate permits from the regulating authority; determine telecommunication closet (IDF's and MDF) and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures; perform both copper and fiber cable splices.
Assist with the design, setup, and installation of audio visual, teleconferencing and media equipment such as LCD projectors, audio systems, speakers, TVs, video monitors, and cameras. Also aids with setting up additional support AV tools like equipment racks. Ability to read or interpret electrical wiring, programming, and basic construction diagrams desired.
Excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills and the demonstrated ability to synthesize data provided by end users, identify technical issues, identify and implement appropriate resolution to solve a variety of technical issues; critical thinking skills with the ability to problem solve and make sound decisions, including but not limited to under pressure; strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences in user friendly language; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to create and maintain accurate technical documentation; excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively and establish and maintain a good working relationship with IT staff and County staff; basic supervisory skills and ability to oversee work done by third parties and contractors. ; Project management skills sufficient to manage assigned project and related resources to completion; strong computer skills with ability to proficiently use computer and typical business software and applications as well as related peripherals and wireless devices.
Position requires physical conditioning that permits the activities necessary in and inherent to the assigned duties such as manual dexterity; ability to multitask and effectively manage competing priorities and make sound decisions; personal accountability including teamwork and establishing and maintaining positive relationships with IT staff and department staff Countywide; ability to work independently and recognize when to elevate issues for guidance or resolution; excellent customer service skills; tact; and courteous.
Must be able to represent the County and IT Department positively and appropriately with end users in various departments Countywide. May occasionally be required to work a flexible schedule to include after-hours, weekends, and holidays; and work at various locations Countywide as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
IT Network/Telecommunications Administrator I: Graduation from high school/GED including completion of some relevant coursework at the college level and two (2) years of relevant work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
IT Network/Telecommunications Administrator II:Two (2) year degree in a relevant IT field and two (2) years of relevant work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Required to have valid driver's license to provide support at locations Countywide. This is a hands-on, on-site work position with very limited remote work capabilities.
Ability to lift 50lbs, must be able to climb ladders, ability to work both indoors and outdoors, and work in small or confined spaces.
This position may be filled at the IT Network Administrator I or II level depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate and the needs of the department at time of hire.
The expected hiring range for this position is $69,538 - $80,039.
