We are seeking an individual to join our team as a Communications Assistant. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our communications efforts through administrative tasks and assisting with creative projects.The Climate Communications and Media Assistant will report to Irene Hess, Communications Manager at 350PDX. Hours can be arranged to work with the student’s schedule. Ideally, 10-15 hours a week, spread out between 2-3 days a week.350PDX’s mission is to build a diverse grassroots movement to address the causes of climate disruption through justice-based solutions by inspiring, training, and mobilizing people to act. We are a relatively young, dynamic, volunteer-driven grassroots organization with thousands of supporters. Our work is significant — the nation and world need compelling examples of communities that are addressing climate disruption head-on through bold and creative measures that bring diverse people together at a time of divisiveness and insufficient state and federal action.Location:
3625 N Mississippi Ave, Portland, OR 97227Core Duties
Utilize Wordpress to maintain the 350PDX website (adding newsletters, updating calendar, and removing outdated content).Utilize Wordpress to design and create new pages for upcoming events, city council election information, etc.Format text and images for newsletters using Salsa Engage (Salsa experience preferred but preliminary training can be provided).Assist with the design and creation of social media content, including graphics, photos, and videos.Assist in documenting events (such as climate rallies, action nights, and city council sessions) using photography and videography.Manage and expand a comprehensive list of media outlets in Portland and the PNW region.Respond to administrative requests related to communications and media.There may be the opportunity to assist with larger media projects, including short documentaries on key environmental issues like biomass and fossil fuels.Minimum Qualifications
Must have Federal Work Study in Financial Aid Package (contact finaid@up.edu with questions).Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.Proficiency or willingness to learn Salsa Engage for newsletter management.Experience with Wordpress.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Interest in environmental advocacy and social justice issues.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Preferred Qualifications
Ability to capture photos and videos at events.Graphic design skills and familiarity with content-creation/editing tools like Canva.Experience in social media planning and strategy on Instagram and X.Knowledge of environmental issues in Portland a plus!Physical Requirements
