ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary
The Design Manager is responsible for leading the creative strategy, development and execution of our brands visual identity and package design in coordination with outside agencies. This role demands excellent communication skills, hands-on graphic design capability and requires ongoing collaboration with many internal teams, including Brand Marketing, Innovation, R&D, Insights and Production. The Design Manager will lead creative activities that include Brand Architecture, Visual Identity, Naming, Photography and Packaging Redesigns. This role facilitates design reviews regularly, providing recommendations to the Leadership and Production teams and leverages expertise to elevate creative excellence across our portfolio. Uses a blend of project management, business acumen, and design management skills to successfully lead packaging initiatives across PCB Pet brands.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy and development of design initiatives with multiple outside agencies. Key contacts include Sr. Account Executives and Creative Directors.
- Collaborate with Sr. Brand and Sr. Innovation Managers to translate objectives into clear design briefs/assignments for agencies, ensuring cross functional alignment on the project objective.
- Facilitate successful design reviews, effectively influencing and building consensus across groups including Brand, Innovation and Insights.
- Manage photoshoots in collaboration with agency Art Directors and work closely with Insights on the development of stimulus, discussion guide and deployment of packaging research.
- Primary focus is on packaging design, brand architecture and brand identity. However, this role will flow to the work on the Pet Studio team, helping create design solutions for eComm, social content, instore materials, etc.
- Work closely with Production team to ensure design intent is carried through to execution.
- Manage the staff, project, and financial resources for key design assignments. Manage the SOW, invoicing and budget process for assigned brands.
Qualifications
Experience Required
- Minimum 5+ years CPG package design and creative project management
- Creative agency experience a plus
- Bachelors degree required (Graphic Design or similar)
Other
- Proven CPG experience driving creative solutions
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Outlook, Excel, and PPT
- Experience leading multi-functional teams
- Agency management experience
- Has a good understanding of packaging prepress, production and print processes (flexo, gravure and offset)
- People oriented with excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Photoshoot management and talent rights experience
- Willingness to travel
