This news editor position is time-limited through June 30, 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for the quality of the final product of local news content in Morning Edition, All Things Considered and online with an emphasis on daily news. The editor works closely with the news director, assistant news director, digital manager and KUER’s hosts and reporters. The editor will also manage shared content from KUER partners like the Mountain West News Bureau, the Utah News Collaborative and the Great Salt Lake Collaborative.
The ideal candidate is a skilled storyteller and audio and digital editor with strong attention to detail. This position requires solid project management skills with the ability to lead and build consensus in a fast-paced environment. The news editor should be a collaborative and capable leader who can work with people across the newsroom in both audio and digital formats, across multiple departments at KUER and with partner newsrooms in Utah, as well as regional and national networks and programs.
Creative storytelling ability is a must, as is a dedication to presenting a diverse array of voices – in gender, ethnicity, geography and philosophy, among others. This candidate is an excellent communicator with a passion for public radio. This person must always remain firmly rooted in the ethics and standards of public media.

Qualifications:Two to four years of progressively more responsible editorial experience.Experience should include public broadcasting news editing, familiarity with public radio news and public affairs program offerings and a minimum of three years of public radio experience.Sound news judgment and knowledge of journalistic and editorial best practices.A curious and creative mind with a focus toward expanding our coverage.Exemplary broadcast and digital writing and editing skills, including familiarity with AP style.A proven track record in audio journalism, with expertise in sound production and news gathering.Excellent communicator, team player and problem solver with demonstrated human relations skills.Demonstrated leadership in helping team members meet deadlines while ensuring newsroom success.Meticulous organizational skills and a clear understanding of project management in a deadline-sensitive environment.A passion for storytelling that serves distinctive communities, including a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion to align with station goals and culture.Preferences:The ability to edit, write and speak Spanish fluently.
