EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Knowledge of print and electronic journalism is required. Experience with photography, videography, and radio and television broadcasting is preferred. An ability to write for various media formats. Knowledge of school public relations is helpful but not required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops strategic integrated communication plan for the Emanuel County Board of Education and/or its Foundation and coordinates implementation of the plans.
- Ensures that the integrated communications plan supports the school system’s mission/vision.
- Works as liaison between school system, schools and media contacts.
- Ability to perform research and design and implement surveys.
- Provides clear, concise response to specialized inquiries, especially those of a sensitive and/or controversial nature.
- Writes articles, proofreads and edits copy and typesets copy for accuracy and clarity during production. Structures articles in appropriate formats for various media to help ensure placement.
- Designs, writes, coordinates, and manages the production of articles, newsletters, publications, proposals, annual reports, scripts, speeches, and related items.
- Coordinates/directs media relations efforts.
- Prepares and manages annual budget for public relations.
- Prepares school system’s annual reports of accomplishments and coordinates its distribution.
- May train, supervise and coordinate work activities for or monitor the materials produced by interns or student personnel.
- Ensures articles/publications are distributed to appropriate parties. May maintain an archive of newspaper clipping of published articles and advertising.
- Prepares general correspondence, special reports and provides information as needed/requested.
- Responds to routine and more complex inquiries from students and the general public.
- Prepares and arranges displays and makes speeches as needed.
- Assists departmental management with special projects, activities, and events.
- Generates purchase order for public relations department.
- Maintains sufficient inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Provides training and development opportunities, as appropriate.
- Attends staff and professional meetings or training sessions, as appropriate.
- Obtains, gathers, and organizes pertinent data into usable form.
- Operates computer, copier, camera, video camera, and other office equipment.
- May research and develop grant applications.
- May be called upon to be a registered lobbyist at state level to write position papers and lobby legislators concerning legislation that impacts local school district.
- Carry out such other duties which may be assigned by direct supervisor.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the designated Supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
