Job Description
We are seeking a talented and creative Science Curriculum Writer to join our rapidly growing company as part of our Product Development team. The Curriculum Writer will create, review, and revise engaging lesson plans for students and teachers for grades K-5.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of educational standards and pedagogical strategies, along with the ability to create materials that resonate with diverse student populations. This position involves collaboration with educators, subject matter experts, and
stakeholders to ensure that our curricula meet the needs of learners and educators alike.
As a part of the Product Development department, you have the unique opportunity to create resources to equip teachers to teach in an engaging, effective way. By enriching the teacher and student experience, you will also contribute to our significant growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop comprehensive lesson plans that align with state standards, ensuring they are engaging and accessible for diverse learners.
- Unpack state science standards and apply instructional strategies to address all elements of the unpacked standard.
- Write and self-edit student and teacher curriculum materials, assessments, and interactive activities that foster critical thinking and collaboration.
- Create Science curriculum materials that contain accurate, easy to use and understand content for teachers and students, and are effective at helping to achieve learning goals.
- Conduct research and participate in professional development on current educational trends, best practices, and subject-specific content to inform curriculum development.
- Collaborate with teachers and educational stakeholders to gather feedback and refine curricula based on real classroom experiences.
- Create and maintain necessary project tracking documentation, frameworks, and alignments.
- Use AI responsibly to aid in creating materials according to company policies including necessary documentation of AI use.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, or a related field.
- Proven experience with at least five years in curriculum writing for K-5 education.
- Strong understanding of elementary concepts, standards and misconceptions
- Strong understanding of pedagogical theories and practices, including differentiated instruction and assessment strategies
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively across elementary grade levels and audiences
- Familiarity with educational technology and digital tools used in curriculum development and delivery
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment (including curriculum design and development) to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Very detail-oriented
- Ability to manage/edit freelancers’ work.
- Able to apply consistent application of writing guidelines and standards adopted by the curriculum writing team.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
- Must have excellent communication skills
- A strong passion for science elementary content and education
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, or a related field
- At least 5 years experience in an elementary teaching role, with an understanding of classroom dynamics and student needs
- Experience working for an educational publisher
- Experience with content management systems and digital content-creation tools
