Apple’s Graphics, Games, and Machine Learning organization is seeking a highly motivated manager to lead the evolution of system-level services for Metal, Apple's low-overhead API for GPU access in products like iPhone, iPad, AppleTV, Apple Vision Pro, and Mac. Responsibilities include GPU driver work submission, scheduling, resource management, inter-process communication, and virtualization.
Description
The Metal Systems Framework manager will oversee the delivery of kernel mode frameworks and driver-development kits (DDKs) that connect Metal APIs with drivers, integrating with Apple’s driver frameworks such as IOKit and Virtualization. The role involves collaboration with Metal, driver, compiler, and OS teams to design, integrate, and optimize services across Apple products and support emerging acceleration needs. Additionally, the manager will work with Metal ecosystem teams to enhance gaming, professional, and machine learning applications on Apple platforms.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience with GPU and display system interfaces at hardware and software levels.
- Strong knowledge of OS fundamentals such as memory management, scheduling, synchronization, system calls, and IPC.
- Detailed understanding of GPU hardware architecture, capabilities, and performance.
- Experience building collaborative relationships across large organizations.
- Excellent communication skills to influence across levels and functions.
- Ability to motivate teams, ensure accountability, and deliver results.
- Proficiency in software design, debugging, and performance analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with complex driver models such as IOKit, WDM, and WDDM.
- Knowledge of current and emerging rendering, ML, and compute techniques.
- Exposure to Metal, C/C++, Objective-C/C++, and Swift.
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields or equivalent experience.
Pay & Benefits
Base pay ranges from $219,300 to $378,700, depending on skills, experience, and location.
