Overview
The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is seeking a creative and experienced 3D Animator to join our team. As a 3D animator, you will be responsible for the design and execution of 2D and 3D animations. This includes modelling, texturing and animating industrial and mechanical processes, products and components to be used in workforce training materials delivered across multiple platforms including printed material and digital e-learning modules. This position will work closely with instructional designers, subject matter experts, developers and other media and creative services team members to create educational content that is effective and user-friendly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use 3D software to create high-quality animations for use in various projects, including videos, training modules, illustrations, work instructions, etc.
- Participate in pre-production planning, including storyboarding and concept development.
- Coordinate with other team members such as training coordinators, photographers, videographers, illustrators and a wide range of subject matter experts.
- Ensure that all animations meet the project’s creative vision and technical specifications.
- Implement timing, pacing, finishes and motion principles to enhance the realism and impact of animations, and use lighting, shading and camera techniques to improve the visual quality of animations.
- Understand and interpret the training objectives to be achieved through the development of training materials, and to determine best use of 3D elements to achieve those training objectives.
- Proactively conduct research needed to accurately depict manufacturing equipment, materials, products, fixtures, interiors and processes.
- Take direction and feedback while iterating on the visuals until they meet the highest quality and creativity standards.
- Participate in meetings and provide input on storyboards and instructional design documents.
- Maintain a library and pipeline of assets from concept to final delivery for every project.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to animation software, rendering or asset management.
- Stay updated on industry trends, techniques and emerging tools to enhance your skills continuously.
- Select colors, fonts, images, and layouts based on brand guidelines.
- Ensure projects are completed promptly and are of high quality.
- Strive to develop familiarity with principles of adult learning, and be able to recommend and develop effective use of 3D elements in eLearning modules.
COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency in 3D animation software, such as 3DS Max, Blender, Maya.
- Solid understanding of animation principles, timing and motion dynamics.
- Possess a creative mindset with a strong eye for detail and visual aesthetics.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet project deadlines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in Graphic Design, Instructional Design, Media Production, Web Development, Fine Arts, Game Programming or Animation or relevant certification, and professional experience in relevant fields. Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
- At least 1 year of work experience as a 3D animator; or related skill-set demonstrated in portfolio.
- Robust portfolio demonstrating a strong understanding of animation techniques, showcasing dynamic and visually engaging design principles.
- Portfolio with references supporting the candidate’s performance could stand in for the work experience requirement for a recent graduate from an accredited program in design, animation or media production.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three years working hands-on in instructional design and development of digital content.
- Credentials in Instructional Design/Technology, Education, Information Technology, Web design and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Coding proficiency in languages such as HTML5, Javascript, C++, C#, Python, etc.
