The Position
Job Appointment: Full Time, At Will
This position is exempt from Civil Service and is an "At Will" position. It serves at the discretion of the hiring authority, subject to City of Portland Human Resources Administrative Rules and Portland City Charter and Code.
Work Schedule: Flexible schedule to include some work to be completed nights and weekends according to elected official events schedule.
Work Location: Hybrid - 420 SW Main Street, Portland, OR, 97204. Remote work must be performed within Oregon or Washington. Position Summary:
The Office of Commissioner Rene Gonzalez is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to join our team as a Digital Media Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for covering all social events attended by the elected official, capturing the experiences, and
transforming them into engaging content for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
platforms. The ideal candidate will thrive under pressure, excel at meeting tight
deadlines, possess excellent communication skills, and have a keen eye for
professional photography.
Responsibilities include:
Attending all social events alongside the elected official and stage and
capture high-quality photographs and videos.
Editing and enhancing media content to ensure it is suitable for social media platforms under tight deadlines.
Developing engaging captions and posts to accompany media content for
Twitter and Facebook.
Monitoring social media channels for relevant trends and opportunities to
engage with the audience.
Collaborating closely with the elected official's communications team to align social media content with overall messaging and objectives.
Maintaining a consistent and cohesive visual aesthetic across all social media
platforms.
Managing and organizing media files efficiently to ensure easy retrieval and
access.
Operating and maintaining photography equipment provided by the
organization.
Ensuring that talking points are prepared for each social event, even if
someone else is responsible for writing them. Collaborating with the
communications teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with
the elected official’s objectives.
Being responsible for knowing all attendees who will be present at public events attended by the elected official, ensuring that appropriate interactions and engagements are facilitated.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position. Applicants must describe in their cover letter and résumé how their education, training, and/or work experience, meets each of the following minimum qualifications:
Proven experience in social media management, particularly in a fast-paced
environment.
Excellent photography and videography skills, with proficiency in editing
software.
Strong understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and best
practices.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without
compromising quality.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for storytelling.
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules
Although not required, you may have one or more of the following (desired qualifications):
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or a
related field.
Prior experience working in a political or public relations environment.
Familiarity with social media analytics tools to track and measure
performance.
Knowledge of graphic design principles and experience creating visual
assets.
Passion for current events, politics, and community engagement.

STEP 2: Minimum Qualification Evaluation: Mid - Late September
An evaluation of each applicant's training, paid and unpaid experience, as demonstrated in their cover letter, and resume, weighted 100%.

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.
STEP 4: Selection (Interview): Early October
Hiring bureau will review and select candidates for an interview
STEP 5: Offer of Employment: Early October
Some positions will require those offered employment to complete and sign a criminal background statement before being considered for employment. (Include if requires an in-depth background investigation.)
STEP 6: Start Date: Mid - October
A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
