Reports to (Position): Production Manager and Artistic DirectorPrepared date: 8/21/24Rate: $30Category: Hourly - Non-UnionSUMMARY:The duty of the NSMT Technical Director is to Plan, Build, and install the Scenery for all performances at North Shore music theater. They work with the Assistant Technical Director and Lead Carpenter to help maintain and upkeep the shop along with keeping the shop moving forward with tasks and Projects.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Technical Director will oversee technical design and draft scenic elements for all NSMT productions.Responsible for creating bids for all upcoming builds to ensure the designed scenery can be created within budget.Forge working relationships with Designers and Directors to help solve the inevitable issues that arise when transferring concepts from paper to the stage.Working with the Lead Carpenter to supervise the floor of the scene shop in an efficient manner to meet all production deadlines.Purchase production materials, supplies and equipment for the scenic production department.Oversee the tracking of scene shop inventory of stock items and building materials, and restock when neededAssist in the transportation/shifting of scenery as required by the production.Make sure proper safety equipment and methods are available and used for job assignments.Help maintain and improve stage space, scene shop, and storage facilities.Build a set list and build calendar with the NSMT Paint Charge and Electrics Lead and see that it is followed by the build crew.Maintain a clean and safe working environmentManage your time in an effective mannerThis position must be able to communicate orally and by e-mail with creative team membersThe ability to reposition and/or transport objects of 50 pounds.Must be able to consistently position oneself in a stooping, kneeling, or crouching manner.Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and personnel lifts.This position must be comfortable working in confined spacesEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDBachelor’s degree in Technical Direction preferred or work experience to match.Three years of experience working as TD in a regional theater fieldSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:Knowledge of Scenic Automation (preferably Creative Conners)AutoCAD 2D & 3D or VectorworksComputer skills with proficiencies in Microsoft word and excelKnowledge and experience in Budgeting, Structural Design, theatrical carpentry, woodworking, welding, rigging, and automationAbility to multitask and work well under pressure; meet deadlines.Must be self-motivated with strong organizational skills; a positive attitude is essential.NSMT is an equal opportunity employer and encourages persons of all ethnicities, gender identities, and ages as well as those with disabilities to apply.NSMT is a covid compliant company.
