Position Summary
Perfect opportunity for a Graphic Design Artist who wants to learn the newspaper industry at Pacific Publishing Company in South Seattle (*SoDo*).
This position is responsible for the design and layout of advertisements and editorial content in neighborhood newspapers. It requires timely work to meet client needs and internal press schedules, including building ads, managing classifieds/legals/editorial, and prepress preparation. The role also involves producing special projects on deadline while handling other duties. The Part-Time Production Artist collaborates closely with sales staff to create, modify, and update advertisements to meet weekly/monthly deadlines and compiles editorials from freelance writers and news-wire sources.
Wage and Schedule
- Wage: $25 hourly, DOE
- Days and Hours: 20 to 25 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with a flexible schedule around 10 AM to 7 PM, adjustable based on deadlines and workload.
- This position may include additional hours for relief roles for the Sales/Marketing Manager and Prepress Technician.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1-3 years of prior experience in graphic design or related schooling, or relevant work experience
- Proficiency with Adobe Suite CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Knowledge of file preparation for CMYK output for newsprint (helpful)
Additional Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Experience with print publications, magazine or newspaper layout, advertising design
- Ability to produce high-resolution PDFs
- Familiarity with CMS and online ad development (helpful)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to learn industry-specific software including FTP and Enfocus PitStop Pro (PDF)
- Strong communication with editorial, sales, and management teams
- Familiarity with corporate identity guidelines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and flexibly, with attention to detail
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Job Functions
- Upload editorial stories as requested
- Layout newspaper editorial, classifieds, and ads using Adobe InDesign
- Manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Collaborate with teams to produce effective advertisements and pages
- Present ad proofs for client review on time
- Produce quality work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
- Assist with additional duties as instructed
