The Weather Channel, America’s most trusted video production news network and TV News Brand of the Year for 9 years in a row, is launching a new regional weather product. Based in Atlanta and backed by the expertise and resources of The Weather Channel, this project combines the best of both worlds - the agility of a start-up and the infrastructure of a renowned brand.
The 24/7 operation will deliver a variety of taped and live weather forecasts to affiliates, including near-live forecasting across the U.S. and live in-studio reporting during severe weather events. By providing best in class weather information and severe weather coverage, the service aims to increase viewer safety and awareness while also fulfilling advertising sponsorships for weather-related content.
The Coordinating Weather Producer responsibilities include assisting in the production and maintenance of all weather content distributed across various supported platforms. They will act as the meteorological communication liaison between the affiliates and the network facilitating both live and recorded deliverables. The coordinating weather producer will work closely with a team of on-camera meteorologists to ensure that their weather storytelling is well-organized, well prepared and includes language and visuals that connect most effectively with the local television markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Track and communicate pertinent weather information to stakeholders through written and verbal briefings, utilizing meteorological expertise.
- Collaborate with affiliates to ensure consistent weather storytelling.
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of weather graphics templates and hits.
- Contribute to the production of well-organized, prepared weather segments for specific target audiences.
- Develop and maintain digital weather content.
- Edit and publish video segments ranging from 10 seconds to 3 minutes in length.
- Produce live and taped segments from conception to completion.
- Coordinate live coverage with affiliates during extreme weather events.
- Troubleshoot content and technical issues on taped segments.
- Manage logistics for content delivery to affiliates.
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field.
- 2 years of meteorological experience to include 2 years of television or graphics building experience.
- 1 year experience using TruVu Max weather systems.
- Experience using editing software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong meteorological background.
- Strong non-linear editing skills preferred.
- Ability to coordinate logistics across newsrooms.
- Excellent collaborative skills and ability to work well on a team.
- Ability to work as a self-starter with minimum supervision.
- Strong knowledge of multi-platform production techniques and language.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and able to react to spontaneous changes in priorities.
