Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Writer. This is a hybrid position based in our Evanston, IL or Durham, NC office.
The Senior Technical Writer will support the development, maintenance, and publication of safety standards, advancing UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) mission to make the world safer, more secure, and sustainable. The role involves developing and optimizing technical standards documents across various industries and technologies, supporting consensus-based standards processes, and synthesizing complex information into accessible language to promote industry adoption and compliance.

What You’ll Learn And Achieve
As the Senior Technical Writer, you will:
- Manage documentation projects from draft to publication, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Author, edit, and refine standards documents and technical reports, ensuring clarity and adherence to guidelines.
- Understand products and services deeply, gathering and interpreting complex data for technical reports.
- Prepare illustrative materials like diagrams and schematics.
- Drive team collaboration and support meetings with prepared agendas and presentations.
- Build relationships with stakeholders and represent UL at various forums.
- Maintain version control, format final documents, and ensure technical accuracy before publication.
- Align documents with international standards and industry best practices.
- Contribute to improving editorial workflows and document usability.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proficiency in technical writing, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear documentation.
- Experience with structured authoring, XML, content management, and digital publishing tools.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Collaborative interpersonal skills and strategic thinking abilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred).
- At least 5 years of related experience.
- Technical writing certification preferred.
- Experience in standards development or regulation is a plus.

Salary Range
$74,051.25 - $101,820.46
