Summary:
Supervises a team of media relations specialists focused on producing media coverage for the research and clinical innovation successes of UNC Health Care and the UNC School of Medicine with a primary focus on securing coverage by national media outlets in conjunction with the organization’s larger, established National Media Plan. This position will take part in the implementation of these media outreach efforts. While research and national media outreach is the primary goal for the Manager, the position will also be asked to perform these same duties regarding local, regional or business news for UNC Health Care and the UNC School of Medicine. This position will develop plans for media outreach by members of the team and in conjunction with UNC Health's outside public relations agency.
Responsibilities:
- Produces videos for external promotion of research and clinical innovations.
- Ensure that content created for media outreach is shared with the interconnected and collaborative groups within UNC Health Care’s Integrated Communications team.
- Leads team in media relations/promotion of the research and clinical innovation successes of UNC Health Care and the UNC School of Medicine.
- Performs human resources responsibilities for staff including interviewing, selection, staff development, performance evaluations, and overall team culture.
- May perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

● Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● None required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Requires five (5) years of combined experience in media relations, internal/corporate communications for large organizations or corporations with demonstrated expertise.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Demonstrated familiarity with the current health care landscape of the Triangle, the State of North Carolina, and the United States as a whole.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills, working quickly under pressure and tight deadlines.
● Demonstrated success planning and managing complex projects from start to finish, and working effectively across internal functional teams.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate/collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization, media, and UNC Communications.
● Proficiency using Microsoft Office products and online portals for public relation services.
● Ability to work and function in a complex environment comprised of medical, corporate and academic settings.
● Work collaboratively across department functions including marketing and branding, marketing technology, and community engagement.
● Supports the strategic vision of the Department and demonstrates the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across a large complex organization.
