Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, visionary Landscape Artist to design, cultivate, and maintain the non-food-producing landscapes of 4Roots Farm Campus. This role goes beyond routine groundskeeping; we are looking for a creative professional who can conceptualize and execute breathtaking, showcase-worthy landscapes that harmonize with regenerative farming principles and elevate the overall aesthetic appeal of the campus.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for landscape design, hands-on horticultural expertise, and the ability to create immersive, ever-evolving outdoor environments that reflect Florida-friendly, sustainable, and biodiverse landscaping practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Landscape Design & Execution
- Develop and implement master landscape designs that enhance the campus’s natural beauty while aligning with sustainability and regenerative agriculture principles.
- Conceptualize and construct visually stunning gardens, flower beds, and ornamental plant displays that evolve seasonally and provide an engaging experience for visitors.
- Incorporate native, pollinator-friendly, and climate-resilient plant species to support biodiversity and ecosystem health.
- Horticultural & Grounds Management
- Oversee the health and maintenance of all non-food-producing plants, ensuring optimal soil conditions, irrigation efficiency, and pest management using eco-friendly solutions.
- Implement pruning, fertilization, mulching, and composting practices that contribute to the long-term health of the landscape.
- Monitor seasonal changes and proactively adjust plant selections and landscape features accordingly.
- Sustainability & Regenerative Practices
- Integrate regenerative landscaping techniques such as water conservation, soil restoration, and compost-based fertilization into daily operations.
- Design and manage green spaces that contribute to the overall sustainability of the campus, including rain gardens, native wildflower meadows, and permaculture-inspired plantings.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Provide guidance and oversight to the grounds maintenance team, ensuring all landscaping tasks, including mowing, edging, hedge trimming, and weeding, are executed efficiently.
- Work closely with educators, volunteers, and farm staff to create interactive and educational landscapes that serve as learning tools for sustainability and environmental awareness.
- Collaborate on special projects and campus events, designing temporary or permanent landscape features that enhance visitor experiences.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in landscape design, horticulture, or a related field.
- Strong expertise in Florida-friendly landscaping, including knowledge of native plants, climate considerations, and ecological interactions.
- Proficiency in garden planning, plant care, irrigation systems, and pest management using organic and sustainable methods.
- Ability to conceptualize and execute high-impact landscape designs that elevate the visual appeal and ecological function of the campus.
- Experience in leading a team and managing comprehensive projects, with the ability to direct grounds maintenance staff effectively.
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
Preferred:
- Experience in regenerative agriculture, permaculture, or ecological landscaping.
- Background in public garden design, botanical curation, or educational landscaping.
- Familiarity with eco-friendly pest control, soil health restoration, and pollinator-friendly planting strategies.
- Previous work in an educational, nonprofit, or community-driven agricultural setting.
