This is a part-time position with benefits. The Library Community Service Officer reports to the Lead Library Community Service Officer and is responsible for maintaining a safe environment at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, assisting patrons and staff, and supporting security operations. Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with library policies Report hazards and criminal activities Assist patrons and staff as needed Respond to alarms and incidents Write police reports Handle theft detection alarms Provide information to library visitors Create a welcoming and secure atmosphere Monitor surveillance and security systems Operate security communication equipment Post-appointment, officers must complete training provided by the University Police Department. The role requires physical ability to walk, stand, sit, and perform other movements, with exposure to indoor and outdoor environments and potential physical and verbal challenges. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Quickly learn and apply university and city rules Understand and apply laws and regulations Operate security equipment Prepare clear reports Communicate effectively Remain calm in emergencies Operate security systems and radios Establish cooperative relationships in diverse environments Possess a valid California Driver's license Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent Valid California Driver's License Preferred Qualifications
Police/security/military training or experience Library security experience Customer service experience Compensation
Classification: Community Service Specialist I Anticipated Range: $2,199/month (Part-Time) Range: $3,338 - $4,816/month Application Process
