The desk assistant monitors access to the Law Library, checks material out to patrons, answers the phone, and any other jobs presented by any member of the library staff. The Summer Library Desk Assistant works on weekends when the full time library staff is off. The ideal candidate is a recent UNH Law School graduate who is studying for the Bar Exam. This position is not essential staff – if the school is closed, the Law Library is closed.
Duties/Responsibilities
- The Library Desk Assistant responsibilities include:
- Opening and closing the library if first or last on duty. 5%
- Answering the telephone, transferring calls. 5%
- Properly checking-out circulating materials. 10%
- Providing patrons access to reserve materials. 10%
- Monitoring access status of all who enter. 5%
- Directing patrons to the library's resources. 5%
- Completing all projects or jobs presented by any staff . 5%
- Staying at the desk at all times except when helping someone in the immediate area. 55%
- H.S. Diploma
- Knowledge of Library procedures and customs; customer service skills; responsibility
- JD Degree and familiarity with law school curriculum and bibliography; previous experience working in a library or other retail experience.
