Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
- Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice experience in the U.S.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: ABPN board certification or eligibility, Buprenorphine treatment experience.
- Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, reaching, walking, visual and auditory capabilities, and emotional stability.
Duties
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric care (assessment, consultation, treatment) in the Tyler Mental Health Team at VA North Texas Health Care System.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy for a broad range of clinical problems including PTSD, mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders, substance use, and geriatric psychiatric disorders.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and supervise healthcare professionals such as Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Pharmacy Specialists.
- Participate in ongoing research and clinical training programs, and engage with affiliated educational institutions.
