Job Summary:
The News Anchor communicates prepared news stories to the audience in a clear, concise, entertaining, and accurate manner. May provide guidance to student employees.
Additional Department Summary:
Researches, writes, and approves stories for both the broadcast and digital platforms. Oversees all elements of the newscast including story selection, writing, and editing before timing as well as anchoring newscasts. Crafts and executes the vision for the newscast. Leads the newsroom and helps plan and execute ideas while fostering teamwork and collaboration. Communicates clearly with staff in both the news and production departments.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of reporting experience to include some live reporting; OR associate's degree and four (4) years of reporting experience to include some live reporting; OR high school diploma and six (6) years of reporting experience to include some live reporting.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions. May be required to work non-typical schedules, including weekends and special events. May work in inclement weather. Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 30 pounds.
Skills and Knowledge:
Exemplary on-air presentation skills to include excellent verbal communication and interviewing skills. Proficient in the operation of a personal computer. Exceptional writing, planning and organizational skills.
