Job Title: Library Clerk
Position Function: Performs a wide variety of duties in the library some of which are confidential in nature. Works directly with students and staff within the library.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Performs the full range of circulation desk procedures using our automated circulation system; Destiny.
- Generates reports, produces fine and lost item notices, and maintains student and staff records, updating information as necessary.
- Checks in new resources and processes new material according to district guidelines for shelving; inventories the collection as directed using the scanner and Destiny system.
- Possesses knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System to sort and shelve materials correctly.
- Utilizes basic research skills to assist students and staff in accessing materials and information.
- Maintains a list of needed supplies and resources for ordering.
- Works with teachers and staff to establish the library schedule.
- Assists students and staff in locating resources in the library and using online resources.
- Provides assistance to classroom teachers regarding basic research paper requirements.
- Monitors students using the library.
- Maintains effective communication and relationships with staff and students, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook.
- Compiles statistics on library usage and book circulation, maintaining records accurately and timely.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs technical issues with library equipment such as copiers, printers, and computers.
- Conducts or assists with the book fair, including collecting money and setting up displays.
- Updates technical knowledge through professional development and maintaining professional learning networks.
- Willingness to learn and teach others new computer techniques such as Excel, Word, Google Tools, and other reference sites.
Additional Duties: Assists with additional duties as assigned.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads, along with basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, and scanners. Must comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Some travel within the district may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Work at a computer, bend, stoop, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work in standard office and school building environments.
- Additional demands may be requested by the Supervisor.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless approved leave is obtained.

- All employees must report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259.
Qualification Profile:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of 6 months experience working with children preferred.
- A minimum of 6 months experience working in an office environment preferred.
