Base pay range $35.00/hr - $41.00/hr Job Title: Instructional Designer (1404654) Location: Stanford CA 94305 Contract Type: W2 Duration: 4 Month Rate USD $ $41.42 hr-w2 (All Inclusive) Job Overview The Stanford Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to collaborate on a project to develop a self-paced asynchronous Canvas-based course focused on AI literacy skills for faculty and instructors at Stanford University. The person in this role will work with content experts to build engaging instructional modules on topics at the intersection of AI and education such as academic integrity, AI prompting, evaluating AI outputs, AI course policy, integrating AI into student assignments, and so on. Join us in shaping the future of education by empowering educators with essential and critical AI literacy skills. Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with the Associate Director for Academic Technology to design and develop course modules. Organize scholarly resources on AI and education topics for presentation in the course modules. Synthesize complex pedagogical and technical information into easily understood, clear, and concise instructional content. Design learning experiences, including activities and assessments, to promote engagement and facilitate learning. Build course modules in Canvas, employing basic coding skills and utilizing genAI technologies when appropriate. Track tasks and timelines to meet deadlines; solicit and incorporate feedback for course improvement. Duration of Employment This temporary position is expected to last from May to August 2025, with a part-time commitment of approximately 24 hours per week. RequirementsRequired Qualifications
Proven ability to create engaging asynchronous instructional content that enhances adult learning. Strong understanding of higher education pedagogy and familiarity with the intersection of generative AI, pedagogy, and education. Strong instructional and educational writing experience, with the ability to write clearly and engagingly. Proven experience working effectively in teams and collaborating with stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge and experience with Canvas; familiarity with coding web-based interactive elements is a plus. Experience designing graphic and visual elements for courses, such as banners, icons, charts, infographics, etc., with basic graphic design skills and proficiency in relevant design tools. Familiarity with web accessibility standards to ensure an accessible course design. Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and tools. Application Process We are primarily looking for demonstrated experience and examples such as course modules, instructional materials, interactives, and so on, that demonstrate the ability to create well-designed instructional experiences leveraging effective pedagogical strategies and learner engagement. We also welcome examples of instructional writing that demonstrate clarity and an engaging human presence. We will also consider preferred, but not required, examples that show the candidate's ability in graphic design and/or web interactives. We will begin selecting applicants for online interviews in mid to late April, with a target May start date.
