Visiting Instructor of Music Theatre
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: The Visiting Instructor of Music Theatre essential duties and responsibilities include teaching a standard course load of both upper and lower-division music theatre classes and music directing or directing production per academic year. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded music theatre educator with a strong teaching, music directing, and performance background who brings new expertise in music theatre to the department. Teaching assignments would include courses in: Music Theatre Repertoire, Music Theatre Workshop, Voice and Diction, Music Theatre Senior Capstone, as well as general education courses in Theatre Appreciation or General Arts survey courses and the possibility of a course reflecting an area of particular expertise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following (other duties may be assigned):
- The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; courses may be assigned as in-person, online, or hybrid delivery modalities.
- Utilize D2L for course syllabus and grade book
- Prepare and grade assignments, assessments
- Music Direct one musical
- Service to the Department and University via committee work.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- B.F.A. in Music Theatre. The degree must be from an accredited institution.
- 5 years of professional experience in Music Theatre.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching, teamwork, and collegial problem-solving.
- M.F.A. in Music Theatre. The degree must be from an accredited institution.
- Three years’ experience in college-level teaching.
- Ability to accompany classes on the piano in music theatre.
