Job Summary/Description:
The leading station in the 70th largest market seeks a versatile individual willing to wear many hats in the newsroom. The successful candidate will edit newscasts, shoot news and sporting events, and collaborate with MMJs and anchors on packages.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Edit and ingest news video from networks and other sources for broadcast.
- Demonstrate sound news judgment and storytelling skills with pictures and natural sound.
- Utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
- Be a visual storyteller.
- Communicate with reporters, writers, and producers regarding video needs.
- Maintain records of edited stories and archive management.
- Respond promptly to breaking news and urgent situations.
- Meet goals and attend training sessions.
- Show initiative, creativity, and a desire to learn and grow.
- Work professionally with colleagues, providing critique, feedback, and training.
- Follow safety regulations.
- Upload raw video and photos to the website before editing for TV broadcast.
- Coordinate with web staff during breaking news.
- Manage storage and maintain photo libraries.
- Seek ways to enhance visual content online.
- Possess knowledge of local geography and road routes (preferred).
- Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Ability to edit stories and collaborate with reporters and producers.
- Skill in editing video and photos for on-air and online use.
- Knowledge of NAT sound usage.
- Proficiency with non-linear editing and adaptability to new technology.
- Ability to generate and identify story ideas.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and familiarity with news software and web posting tools.
- Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
- Stay updated with local and national news/weather.
- Strong attention to detail and initiative.
- Maintain a positive attitude and foster a positive work environment.
- Understand and enforce journalistic ethics.
- Work well with others, even in challenging environments.
- Knowledge of ENG trucks and basic social media skills.
