- Bachelor's degree in communications or related field required. Master's Degree in communications or related field preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in the ability to articulate a clear vision and to work cooperatively with colleagues to attain the vision.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Experience with a diverse student and parent population preferred.
- Ability to work individually and as a part of interoffice and District teams.
- Experience with social media.
- Possess effective budget management skills.
- Experience with enterprise level Web Content Management System (Finalsite preferred).
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Plan, organize, and implement all public relations strategies for the West Bloomfield School District.
- Offer excellent communication services to support the WBSD mission, vision, and community leadership goals.
- Direct all media relations on behalf of the District, including serving as spokesperson, managing crisis communications, responding to media inquiries, seeking media attendance at events, and preparing and distributing news releases, photos, and videos/podcasts.
- Conceptualize, develop, research, and create electronic and hardcopy information and marketing material; coordinate and edit District publications.
- Manage content and strategic direction of the District website; serve as District webmaster.
- Serve as editor/writer for District website, newsletters and other publications.
- Keep pace with and incorporate emerging technologies used in communication with the public, including social media.
- Serve as the District liaison on committees and with various community groups such as West Bloomfield Educational Foundation, United We Walk, Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce, Greater West Bloomfield Clergy Association, Greater West Bloomfield Michigan Week Committee, Optimist Club, etc.
- Photograph district programs and events for the web site, social media, and publications.
- Develop and implement comprehensive marketing programs for Schools of Choice, Adult and Alternative Education, and Oakland Early College.
- Design and prepare necessary signage and printed materials for the District and buildings.
- Support the Superintendent in overall administration efforts and interpret their ideas and decisions to staff and the community. Keep the Superintendent informed of pertinent department developments and events, and seek and provide counsel on decisions as needed.
- Create and facilitate all special interest communications, including budget and bond initiatives.
- Utilize outreach technologies-including Finalsite CMS and social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages-to support district-level communication and marketing efforts as well as community engagement.
- Lead all student, employee, and school recognition programs with appropriate administrators.
- Maintain and utilize various systems for digital communications to families within the District, including, but not limited to, PowerSchool and BlackBoard.
- Strategically position the District, manage messages at all levels and help school personnel and volunteers take an active role in successfully implementing the District's strategic plan.
- Proactively forecast potential issues and formulate appropriate crisis responses for the District.
- Serve as a member of the District's Administrative Council and attend Board of Education meetings and other District events as requested. The position may require the individual to work irregular or extended work hours and meet multiple demands from several people.
- Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
- Maintain regular and reliable work-site attendance.
- Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The West Bloomfield School District offers excellent benefits: public school employees retirement system, social security, term life insurance, disability insurance, health, vision, dental insurance, and a competitive salary. Placement on the Non Bargaining Unit Supervisor salary schedule will be in the range of $97,571 - $102,510, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
