Science & Engineering Librarian
The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) Libraries invites applications from collaborative and innovative candidates for the position of Science & Engineering Librarian! This tenure-track faculty position serves as one of three subject specialists for students and faculty in the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences, as well as other liaison areas as assigned. Duties include participating in all six pillars of liaison responsibilities in support of the College of Engineering & Applied Sciences and related programs and departments: collection development, instruction, relationship building, research support, subject expertise, and advocacy. The Science & Engineering Librarian leverages their librarianship expertise to advance the College’s goals of being a world leader for excellence and innovation in engineering research and education. An essential element of the position is supporting student success and contributing to an engaged Libraries environment. The Science & Engineering librarian participates in the libraries’ collaborative team environment and performs other duties as assigned.
As a member of the University Libraries faculty, the Engineering Librarian will be expected to maintain a record of scholarly research/creative work, participate in professional service activities, and actively engage in faculty governance, in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder. This position has the opportunity to work in a hybrid capacity. This tenure-track faculty position reports to the Head of the Relationship Building & Engagement section. A typical annual merit formula for tenure-track faculty is 40% librarianship, 40% research, and 20% service. The Relationship Building & Engagement section is part of the Branches & Services Team, part of the Success & Engagement Strategies Chapter. Please see the Libraries’ organizational chart.
What We Require

- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution;
- Experience or coursework developing innovative, user-centered learning opportunities to enhance research and/or teaching;
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity and inclusion;
- Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional service.

- Knowledge of pedagogical and research methodologies in the sciences and/or engineering;
- Demonstrated ability to actively seek out partnership, collaboration, and input from others.
What We Would Like You to Have
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:
- Experience in an academic or research library;
- Experience in outreach or engagement with communities;
- Experience providing user-centered reference or research support services;
- Experience in collection development with knowledge of trends and issues in academic publishing;
- Academic or professional experience in Science, Engineering, or related fields.

The University of Colorado Boulder is one of the largest employers in Boulder County and offers an inspiring higher education environment. The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12-month) tenure track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank. The salary range for Assistant Professor is $70,000-$76,000. A candidate that meets the University and Libraries criteria for hire with tenure may be eligible for the rank of Associate Professor with a starting salary range of $80,000-$86,000. A candidate with a career of excellence and significant growth, development, and accomplishment post-tenure may be eligible for the rank of Full Professor with a starting salary range of $95,000-$105,000. Relocation assistance may be available within University Libraries guidelines. Faculty receive limited professional development funds annually.

This position is offered in a hybrid capacity. There will be an information session on Monday, March 31, 2025 from 11:00-11:45 am. At this information session, the search committee will share information about the Science & Engineering Librarian job search, working at CU Boulder, the tenure track, and answer attendee questions. A webinar link will be provided to registrants via email.
