This is a Fair Labor Standards Act defined Exempt Position - Exempt positions are excluded from minimum wage, overtime regulations, and other rights and protections afforded nonexempt workers. The employee in this position is paid a salary rather than an hourly wage for this position. FLSA does not limit the amount of work time an employer may require or expect from any exempt employee, on any schedule.
Hamilton County Government expects an employee in this position to complete the work assigned regardless the amount of hours involved in completing the tasks assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this classA Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Fire Science, Communications, Technology, or a closely related field and four (4) years of direct work experience in one or more of the following fields: law enforcement, firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, at least two (2) years of which must be in an incident command leadership role. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license with F-endorsement or the equivalent special class and endorsement as required by the state of residence.
OR
An Associate's degree in Emergency Management, Fire Science, Communications, Technology, or a closely related field and six (6) years of direct work experience in one or more of the following fields: law enforcement, firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, at least two (2) years of which must be in an incident command leadership role. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license with F-endorsement or the equivalent special class and endorsement as required by the state of residence.
OR
The equivalent of a
high school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of direct work experience in one or more of the following fields: law enforcement, firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, at least two (2) years of which must be in an incident command leadership role. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license with F-endorsement or the equivalent special class and endorsement as required by the state of residence.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT:
Employees in this position are subject to being on call 24 hours a day during emergencies.
In addition, the candidate must successfully complete within one (1) year from the date of hire the following training programs:
IS 100 - Incident Command System (ICS)
IS 120 - An Introduction to Exercises
IS 200 - ICS for Single Resources
IS 230 - Fundamentals of Emergency Management
IS 700 - National Incident Management System
IS 800 - National Response Framework
SAFETY SENSITIVE:
This position has been identified as "safety sensitive" under the definition of 49 CFR Part 40-Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Policy. This position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing for the following:
1) post offer pre-employment 2) when there is reasonable cause 3) after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident 4) on a random basis 5) prior to return to duty after suspension and/or 6) as follow-up.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work may require the incumbent to be on call 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. The incumbent may be called to work in potentially hazardous situations in various weather conditions, environmental hazards and related risks. Work also involves the risk of physical harm due to potential exposure to infectious diseases, chemical spills, toxic fumes, and other hazards.
Work requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
