Tufts Medicine seeks a strategic Director of Executive and Clinical Communications to enhance the voice of our leadership and clinical teams across various platforms. This role involves developing and executing a bold communications strategy aligned with our mission, enhancing our reputation as a leader in academic and community medicine. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced communications leader to shape healthcare communication through storytelling, new media, and thought leadership. Collaboration with senior leadership, clinical teams, and key departments is essential to ensure consistent and impactful messaging. The ideal candidate will have experience managing communications in high-pressure situations, including crisis management. The role requires quick, strategic responses and a visionary outlook to meet the needs of our complex healthcare environment. Partnering with system executives, clinical leaders, researchers, and media, the Director will craft narratives and engagement strategies to position Tufts Medicine at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field. Eight (8) years of management experience in executive and clinical communications. Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field. Eight (8) years of management experience in a large, complex healthcare or academic medical setting. Duties and Responsibilities
The following outlines the core duties; other responsibilities may be assigned: Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with Tufts Medicine's mission and vision. Advise senior executives, craft speeches, presentations, and thought leadership content that highlight Tufts Medicine's industry leadership. Lead executive visibility efforts, including securing speaking engagements and media placements. Create internal communication strategies to boost engagement and transparency. Build relationships with influencers and stakeholders to increase visibility regionally and nationally. Oversee clinical storytelling initiatives, communicating research and healthcare advancements. Collaborate with marketing, media relations, philanthropy, research, and government affairs teams to integrate messaging. Support crisis communication efforts with proactive planning and rapid responses. Use data and KPIs to evaluate communication effectiveness and refine strategies. Apply project management tools and Agile methodologies to improve workflows. Physical Requirements
Primarily sedentary, involving sitting, with movements like walking or standing. Frequent speaking, hearing, and communication tasks. Ability to see, read displays, and operate office equipment. Skills & Abilities
Proven success in high-profile executive communication and storytelling. Strong media relationships and influence in healthcare publications. Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills. Ability to advise and influence senior leadership. Expertise in healthcare and academic medicine communications. Creative, entrepreneurial mindset to innovate healthcare communication.
