Description:
We are seeking a passionate and committed teacher to join our qualified team of educators. As a teacher, you will be responsible for cultivating the students' interest in education and development. Your responsibilities will include teaching the appropriate course of study following the state standards for the subject matter by using various instructional strategies that meet individual learning styles.
As a teacher of Garfield Heights City Schools, you should have a passion and love for teaching students in an urban community. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong knowledge of teaching best practices and vital innovation and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions:
Prepare and deliver lesson plans with the ability to modify them accordingly during the school yearDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of all studentsMaintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and developmentUtilize research-based best practices in daily planning and classroom instructionManage student behavior in the classroomCreate a positive classroom environment for students to learn inUtilize school-approved curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the studentsImplement school-wide culture expectations and normsCommunicate and meet with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their childIncorporate technology skills into daily classroom practice to support learningParticipate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities, as neededCollaborate and communicate effectively with colleaguesPerform other duties as assigned
Other Duties and Responsibilities:Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issuesSupport school, enforce school rules and policiesParticipate on building level teams and/or teacher based teams and/or district level "teams"Organize various subject specific programs within assigned building, e.g., Art showWork closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as "team" teaching, semester projects, etc.Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed uponServe as a role model for studentsAssist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materialsServe on committees and cocurricular activities as agreed uponSupervise student teachersDiscipline students when necessary following the district PBIS modelRespond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate mannerPerform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant or designee
About You:Active and current state of Ohio teaching license in the appropriate content areaBachelor's degree in education or related fieldHigh level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoringExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to appropriately manage confidential informationAble to supervise students of various ages in different school settings (playground, cafeteria, etc.)Training in varied instructional designsSkills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom managementKnowledge in child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasksEducational pedagogyStudent/teacher professional relationshipTechnology skills eg. electronic grades, moodleBasic first aidAbility to pass federal and state criminal background checksExperience working within an urban environment
About Our District:
The Garfield Heights City Schools collaboratively and cooperatively serve students and families of the City of Garfield Heights. Located in Cuyahoga County and bordered on the north by the City of Cleveland proper, and on all other sides by the first ring communities of Northeast Ohio. Our District proudly serves approximately 3,500 students in three Kindergarten through Grade 5 schools, one middle school, and one high school. The district also provides an award-winning Preschool program to educate the youngest students in our community at William Foster Elementary. The Garfield Heights City School prides itself on providing a rigorous and comprehensive pre-k through 12th-grade educational curriculum that clearly focuses on student success through college and career readiness. To that end, Garfield Heights High School offers a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including AP English, AP Government, AP American History, Honors Chemistry, Honors Calculus, Honors Physical Science, and more. While the District offers these high-level academic courses, the GHCS also proudly sends more than 225 students on an annual basis to the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center for those individuals deeply interested in learning a skilled profession or hands-on expertise in one of the trades. Middle School students have increasingly greater opportunities to prepare themselves for high school and parents are readily encouraged to be involved. Elementary School students in the GHCS also participate in such valuable literacy programs as LETRs and social/emotional initiatives as the Zones of Regulation. The GHCS places a great deal of emphasis at all levels of education on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) and each school has won awards from the State of Ohio for encouraging and promoting positive behavior.
A wide variety of co-curricular offerings are available to students of all ages in the Garfield Heights City Schools as well. Such opportunities include more than 18 varsity sports, the district's show choir, Music Express, Marching Band, Theater, A 'Capella Choir, National Honor Society, Student Council, Glass Ceiling, Future Engineers, and more. These co-curricular offerings are award-winning on the state, regional and local levels. Students can expect success when they become involved in the various academic, co-curricular, and student leadership organizations in this District.
