- $23.00 - $26.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
- Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Arts and Events
- Located primarily at the outdoor Staring Lake Amphitheater (14800 Pioneer Trail Eden Prairie, MN 55347) plus other outdoor event sites in Eden Prairie.
- Position runs mid/end of May 2025 - August 2025. Must be available for the following events:
- Starring at Staring Evening Concert Series: Sundays, Thursdays and Fridays (July 6 – Aug 22)
- Jazz Fest: June 8 (all day music festival)
- Summer Musical (evening rehearsals/performances):
- Select rehearsals June 9-12
- June 15-19 (Tech Week)
- June 20-22/June 26-29 (performances)
- Party for Pride: June 21 (morning/early afternoon)
- Military Salute/Hometown Festival: July 2, 3, 4
- KidStock: (Select Tuesday morning performances including July 8 and August 12)
- Picnic on the Farm: July 16
- PeopleFest! Party and Concerts: July 27, 28, 31
- Movies in the Park: Aug 1, 8, 15 (preshow performances and audio/visual tech for movies)
- Arts in the Park: August 17 (all day event)
*These concerts/events are shared between two Audio Techs; there are some events, including the Summer Musical, that may require both sound techs to be present.
Responsibilities
The Audio Technician manages sound set-up, execution, and tear down for rentals, concerts, the summer musical, and special events with additional duties as needed. The primary location for this seasonal position is at the Staring Lake Amphitheater and requires soundboard management in an outdoor setting. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Provides excellent customer service to all guests, volunteers, staff, and contracted talent. Works collaboratively with City staff to establish and maintain sound tech schedules and policies.
- Works independently to set up, operate, and take down sound equipment which may include microphones, speakers, mixing board, electrical cabling, monitors, as well as rear-projection projector, and other equipment as required. Serves as contact to performance groups and provides customized sound support to meet performance needs; may include assistance with loading and unloading equipment; greets groups before each performance and aids with any last-minute requests. Monitors the sound level/ sound amplification according to the City of Eden Prairie’s sound/noise ordinance.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age; minimum of six months experience with various sound systems including set-up, operation, production, take-down, and troubleshooting required. An associates/technical degree or current enrollment in Sound Tech/Sound Mixing or closely related degree program may substitute for up to 3 months of experience. Must be able to frequently lift/carry/pull up to 50 lbs.; occasionally lift/carry/pull up to 75-100 lbs; and the ability to bend/stand/reach.
- Must have late afternoon/evening and weekend availability.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification.
