The Web Content Strategist will be responsible for developing content strategies, for creating and approving web content, and for supporting content contributors across the university. Each strategist works with various contributors to ensure engaging content within the Rowan University brand guidelines, and to offer support with creating content within the university’s content management system. The position reports to the Director of Web Strategy and Development for the Rowan University Web Services team. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is to be expected. Candidates must follow the residency requirements outlined by the New Jersey AFT .
Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions
Serve as a content strategist and Cascade power user across all Rowan websites.
Ability to work independently in the CMS and troubleshoot level 1 problems as they arise during the content creation process.
Serve as a first point of contact for incoming inquiries and issues – assisting and escalating as needed.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to execute content objectives and troubleshoot issues as a CMS power user.
Perform content audits to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and strategic effectiveness.
Assist with both synchronous and asynchronous comprehensive contributor courses to train creators on best practices for content editing, SEO, accessibility, brand voice, and content governance.
Plan and create engaging content for all Rowan web properties.
Collaborate with the Web Product Manager to perform CMS maintenance, governance, and moderation tasks.
Create site maps and user journeys to create clear paths for users.
Work with Subject Matter Experts to create high-quality content that will build Rowan’s reputation as an authoritative source.
Serve as an accessibility advocate, ensuring content meets WCAG standards.
Support and enforce industry web standards and best practices throughout the Rowan University website.
Conduct quality assurance and testing for the development team.
Qualifications
Required
A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Information, or other related field, or equivalent professional experience.
At least three (3) years of professional experience creating and optimizing web content in a CMS.
Detailed understanding of web standards, content optimization, and SEO.
Experience generating content models, site maps, and optimizing user journeys.
Proven ability to work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
Ability to work independently and solve problems with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred
Familiarity with user-centered design and layout aesthetics.
Experience working with Google Analytics or similar web analytics tools to build reports and gather user insights.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and WCAG success criteria.
Understanding of the entire web development lifecycle.

Residency Requirements
Rowan University is subject to the residency requirements of the NJ First Act (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7, P.L. 2011, Chapter 70). Any person hired to a non-exempt position shall either have their principal residence in New Jersey or have one (1) year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
