TITLE: Teacher of the Visually Impaired
QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:QUALIFICATIONS:Must Possess a valid Louisiana Teacher's certificate in the area of Visually ImpairedTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in general use of a computer, the use of Email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applicationsKnowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding children with exceptionalitiesAdditional criteria as the school board may establish
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Services
SUPERVISES: None
JOB GOAL: To provide support services to visually impaired students so that they may access the general education curriculum as appropriate.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide and coordinate unique specialized instruction through daily lessons reflective of the curriculum and students IEP.Coordinate large-type or Braille texts, supplementary materials, educational aids and equipment; monitor student's maximum participation in all classroom activities.Consult with classroom teachers, regular and special education personnel, parents, and students to coordinate programs and services for the visually impaired student.Provide instruction in the development and maintenance of skills as indicated in the IEP; low vision and visual efficiency skills, concept development and academic skills, daily living skills, communication skills, social/emotional skills and abilities, and sensory motor skills.Collaborative with Individual Education Plan (IEP) team in developing student IEPs, including goals and supplementary aids and services.Attend IEP meetings and required staff meetings.Conduct and interpret functional vision/learning media assessments and complete written reports.Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the positionAssume other job related duties as assigned by proper authority which would reasonably be expected of a person holding this position or which is an obvious extension of the above listed dutiesPERSONAL QUALITIES:Devotes time and energy effectively to a job.Demonstrates ability to work well with individuals and groups.Exercises good judgment in arriving at decisions.Maintains high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters.PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:Develops and implements an Professional Growth Plan based on individual needs and requirements, the parish School Improvement Plans and the previous year's observation and evaluation recommendations.Completes an annual self-evaluation.Attend training locally, virtually, and at the state level to stay abreast of current policies and procedures.PROFESSIONAL ETHICS:Maintains good attendance.Reports to work on time.Adheres to parish dress code.Displays professional ethics on and off duty.Maintains confidentiality of student records and information.Accepts and supports administrative decisions.Participates in a harmonious working relationship with peers, parents and community members.Reports job-related injuries within 48 hours of a work accident to the immediate supervisor.Adheres to the DeSoto Parish School Board's Sexual Harassment Policy to be found at File: GAEAA.
