California Film Institute 2025 Mill Valley Film Festival Box Office Manager Location: San Rafael, CA (15 minutes North of the Golden Gate Bridge) Status: Full-Time, Salary, Seasonal, Hybrid/Remote, onsite starting 9/22/25 Dates: 8/1/2025 through 10/17/2025 Compensation: $1320 weekly About CAFILM : CAFILM supports its mission to celebrate film as art and education by presenting the annual Mill Valley Film Festival and DocLands Documentary Film Festival, exhibiting film year-round at the non-profit Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, CA and Sequoia Cinema in Mill Valley, CA, and building the next generation of filmmakers and film lovers through CFI Education. Founded in 1978, the Mill Valley Film Festival is a world-renowned 11-day event held every October, screening over 200 innovative US and international films for over 60,000 attendees. MVFF has a stellar reputation as a filmmakers' festival with a high-profile, prestigious, non-competitive environment celebrating the best in independent and world cinema in gorgeous Northern California. About the Role As the Box Office Manager for the 48th Mill Valley Film Festival (MVFF48), you will play a pivotal role in shaping a seamless, efficient, and welcoming ticketing experience for all festival patrons, filmmakers, members, and guests. The Box Office operation intersects with nearly every department at the California Film Institute (CAFILM), making this position central to the overall success of the Festival. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of box office and ticketing operations-including setup, staff management, and daily reporting. You'll lead a customer-focused team and be responsible for the setup and execution of ticketing within our ticketing platform, Agile Ticketing Solutions (AgileTix). Proficiency with AgileTix is essential to success in this role. You'll join a collaborative and mission-driven team, work alongside professionals who value community, creativity, and inclusion, and have the opportunity to lead with purpose. Key Responsibilities Ticketing Platform Oversight: Serve as lead administrator of the Agile Ticketing Solutions platform for MVFF48. Build and manage events, pricing structures, ticket types, pass credentials, and discounts. Team Management: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise a team of box office staff. Create a welcoming, supportive work environment with clear expectations and daily support. Collaboration Across Departments: Work with Marketing to implement promotions and analyze audience data. Coordinate with Development to ensure member, donor, and sponsor benefits are fulfilled accurately. Support the Operations and IT teams with onsite box office setup and breakdown. Patron Experience & Access: Oversee all aspects of in-person and online ticketing with a focus on hospitality, accessibility, and clarity. Staffing & Payroll: Develop a venue-based staffing plan. Ensure shift records are accurately tracked and submitted on time. Reporting & Reconciliation: Deliver daily sales and attendance reports. Work with the Finance Manager to ensure timely and accurate deposit reconciliation. Wrap & Reporting: Submit a final wrap report, noting areas for improvement, team performance, and system evaluations. Qualifications & Experience Proven experience using Agile Ticketing Solutions (AgileTix)-including back-end event building, reporting, and box office operations. Strong leadership and team-building skills; ability to train and manage staff in a fast-paced festival environment. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional communication and customer service skills. Ability to collaborate across departments and prioritize multiple stakeholder needs. Experience with cash handling, sales reporting, and basic reconciliation procedures. Knowledge of film festivals or arts/cultural event ticketing preferred.
