Shakespeare Theatre Company
Washington, DC

DESCRIPTION
Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), a multi-venue Lort B+ theatre in Washington DC, seeks an experienced Audience Experience Manager (AEM) to lead our professional House Management team. Under the supervision of the Audience Services Director, the AEM works cooperatively with the members of the Audience Services management team (the Box Office Manager and Retail and Concessions Manager). The AEM manages the daily operations of house management, volunteer ushers, audience accessibility, and performance/event related operations in our two houses and lobby areas. The AEM represents the company to our patrons and guests and ensures the highest quality customer service possible. Other daily tasks include scheduling part-time house management staff and volunteer ushers, monitoring lobbies and theaters to keep them safe and comfortable for audiences, providing detailed front of house and event reports, working with rental clients about attendee activities, and collaborating with other departments at STC to fulfill their needs at events and other production-related activities. The AEM will become familiar with each production quickly and will be able to answer questions from patrons as well as other departments.
As the audience at STC grows and we continue to explore new ways of thinking about what the classics mean to a modern audience, we are excited about our upcoming productions of Uncle Vanya, Frankenstein, Duel Reality, Jocelyn Bioh’s Merry Wives, The Wild Duck, Guys and Dolls, On Beckett, Hamnet, and Wendell Pierce in Othello. It’s important to STC that we engage in diverse thinking with new ideas and bring the audience’s voice to the table. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and an annual salary of $53,000-$57,000.
If you are committed to creating a welcoming environment for audiences, staff, students and visitors of all ages and backgrounds, then STC is the place for you! This position is mostly late afternoon, evening and weekends, and requires the ability to multitask and respond quickly, calmly, and appropriately to emergency situations. Problem-solving skills and the enjoyment of helping customers are a must. Two years or more of supervisory experience, including managing volunteers, is strongly preferred. Having worked in a theatre or other live performing arts environment is helpful as is experience with Tessitura and Homebase scheduling software. The most important talents a candidate can bring to this position are exemplary service, strong communication skills, rapid decision making and critical thinking. This position requires regular lifting of up to 25 lbs, and the ability to move quickly on stairs and flat areas. STC will provide de-escalation training as well as crowd control and First Aid/CPR/AED training.
