Responsibilities include:
- Completing music therapy assessments with patients and families when referred, in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Planning music therapy interventions.
- Implementing music therapy interventions per the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Guiding patients in the use of creative therapeutic activities to improve or maintain mental and physical functions and quality of life.
- Instructing other care team members, including hospice aides and family members, on using music to achieve care goals.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of music therapy services with patients and/or families.
- Documenting all services provided in the clinical record.
- Terminating therapy services when appropriate.
- Providing in-services to staff, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities as appropriate.
- Participating as a counselor in the interdisciplinary hospice group, attending IDG meetings, on-call rotations, and assisting with patient sign-ups and consents.
- Supporting the bereavement program through calls, visits, facilitating support groups, and maintaining documentation.
- Performing other duties within the scope of professional licensure as assigned.
Additional functions for Level II and III include supervision of interns, participation and leadership in committees, community outreach, and facilitating bereavement activities, with Level III taking on additional responsibilities such as chairing committees and presenting at external conferences.
