We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time college student pursuing a marketing, communications, or public relations degree to take on the responsibilities of the Marketing Intern position beginning Summer 2025. The Tinley Park Marketing Department coordinates the Village's communication and engagement initiatives, including the weekly Community Email newsletter, which contains the latest news about the Village, updates on construction projects, information on special events and more; Tinley Park Television, Village news releases, the Village's Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter pages and the printed Annual Village Report. In addition to working closely with the Marketing Commission, the department also manages the Village's special events and tourism initiatives, the special event permit application process, Tinley Park's music brand and the Benches on the Avenue program. Funded by Hotel/Motel Tax, the Marketing Department is comprised of five full-time positions including Marketing Director, Marketing & Economic Development Specialist, Public Information Specialist, Community Engagement Specialist, Special Event Specialist, Marketing Program Specialist, and Marketing Assistant as well as three part-time positions including a Marketing Coordinator, Marketing Intern and Videographer.
Key Responsibilities
The Marketing Intern will provide support to the marketing department in all areas and gain a wide variety of exposure to all aspects of a marketing department. The selected candidate will assist with special event planning and coordination for various concerts, festivals, and other community events as well as assisting with writing, proofreading, layout and graphic design of Village marketing materials. The intern will also assist in recording and production of audio-visual materials for the Tinley Park TV station and YouTube channel.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a local college or university, who has completed a minimum of two (2) years of college with a major in marketing, communications and/or public relations. Must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as great attention to detail. Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred. Must possess a valid Driver's License and the ability to occasionally lift/push/move up to 50 pounds.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for public relations, marketing, and communications and be eager to gain valuable related work experience. They will be able to jump in an assist on a variety of marketing initiatives, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have the ability to multi-task, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. They will be available for a wide variety of job tasks and have flexible availability for a wide variety of assignments.
Additional Information
Must be available on a part-time basis year-round up to 12-15 hours per week and for a variety of work shifts including day, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. Additional availability, up to 19 hours per week, needed during summer months. Kindly submit a summary of your current availability with your application.
