As part of our expansion, we are seeking a Computational Design Intern to assist in developing automation tools and optimizing workflows in an architectural manufacturing setting. Internship Summary:
As a Computational Design Intern, you will assist in the development and implementation of automation tools that support the company's manufacturing operations. You will work closely with our design and engineering teams to optimize workflows and create data-rich, mass-customization approaches for aluminum frame assemblies. The ideal candidate will be passionate about digital fabrication, emerging technologies, and multi-disciplinary design approaches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work under the guidance of team members to support company goals and help solve design challenges.
- Assist with the creation of organizational processes and workflows for mass-customization in architectural manufacturing.
- Problem-Solving & Design:
- Develop simple, elegant solutions to geometry and data-related challenges.
- Support the automation of shop drawings and documentation workflows to improve efficiency.
- Tool Development & Integration:
- Create interoperability between project files and digital tools.
- Contribute to the development of parametric models, tools, and automation scripts using Rhino and Grasshopper.
- Digital Fabrication:
- Engage with emerging technologies and digital fabrication techniques to optimize design and production processes.
- Assist with the implementation of data-driven workflows and support multi-disciplinary design efforts.
Education:
Currently pursuing a degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- Rhino/Grasshopper for parametric design and scripting.
- Understanding of digital fabrication and the application of computational design methods.
- Experience with design software, data manipulation, or mass customization workflows is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
- A growth mindset with the willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and technologies.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as C# or Python is a plus.
- A portfolio showcasing digital fabrication projects or built prototypes.
