The social media specialist for the Indiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Affairs is tasked with creating and implementing public health messaging strategies tailored to the state’s diverse populations, requiring a deep understanding of social media strategy. This position has the exciting opportunity to serve as the digital face of the brand, engaging with audiences, building relationships and shaping the agency's online presence. This role will also monitor engagement metrics and audience feedback to refine communication strategies and improve outreach effectiveness.Salary Statement
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:Create and implement social media strategies to highlight agency prioritiesIdentify, generate and edit daily content for IDOH agency-wide social media accountsAct as the digital face of the brand, engaging with audiences, building relationships and shaping the agency's online presenceUse social media analytics to drive messaging and increase trafficTrain staff in agency social media protocolsAssist program areas with coordinating marketing needs, in collaboration with senior communications manager and chief communications officerAssist with photography and videography at agency eventsEdit and proofread agency materialsAssist with agency event planning and coordinationAssist with agency graphic design, including creation of social media graphicsOther duties and projects as assignedThe job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either:Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or other related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in communications or marketing fields, with demonstrated success developing and executing a social media strategyDemonstrated ability to identify target audiences and devise digital campaigns that engage, inform, and motivateStrong knowledge of social media platforms, management tools, and analytics, with demonstrated success in setting appropriate goals to track the performance of social media activitiesExperience with video and still photography, including creating Instagram reelsExcellent oral and written communication and creative thinking skillsAbility to write and edit for diverse audiencesAbility to work well independently and as part of a teamDemonstrated success at multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing workflow in urgent situationsKnowledge of Associated Press style and commitment to accuracyStrong customer service and time-management skillsAbility to quickly understand agency policies and proceduresAbility to research complex questions and answer customers accurately and in a timely mannerSupervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
